Trek to Everest Base Camp

Thursday, May 1 – EVEREST BASE CAMP (17,500 ft.)

Tour schedule: An early start is essential so that we can have few hours at the Base Camp. We can see Khumbu Glacier as we approach Gorakshep, where we will take a short break before hiking into the Base Camp Area (pictured on the right). We will see the spring climbing expedition camps in the base area and have an opportunity of meeting with some Everest climbers. The base camp also offers views of the dramatic Khumbu Glacier. The actual summit of Everest is hard to see from this location as we are so close to the mountain. Return to Lobuche for the overnight.

And the day unfolds: H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y J O H N!

But that was at the end of the day at Gorak Shep

Our day started with an early departure from Lobuche.Descending down to Gorak Shep (our overnight stop), where after a short rest we continued to BC. Mt Pumori dominates the skyline with the Khumbhu Glacier just visible to the right

Soon after leaving Gorak Shep we start hiking on the glacier moraine
Just in case you got lost in this valley

The following pictures are as we traverse the glacial moraine
to reach the tents setup to establish the Base Camp at Everest
