Why Destination Himalaya?
From the journal of Founder Sanjay Saxena:
The excitement of seeing something wondrous – the WOW experience – was instilled in me as a young boy while on a school field trip with my classmates. On a cold, frosty morning in Northern India, the sun had not yet lit up the sky when I reluctantly crawled out of my warm sleeping bag and put on every piece of warm clothing I had, joining my friends for an early morning encounter with a telescope and my introduction to astronomy. With not much enthusiasm, I waited my turn with my classmate to stand on the stool and look through a refracting telescope. With my turn at hand, I approached the telescope, put my eye to the lens and…my life was instantly changed. “You can breath now Sanjay,” I heard the instructor say, and realized I had been holding my breath.
For what I saw through the telescope took my breath away. I had seen artist renderings of the ringed planet and even drawn the rings of Saturn for an art project. However, peering through that telescope and for the first time actually seeing the majesty and awe-inspiring “real” image of Saturn, with its rings perfectly juxtaposed at an angle for maximum effect, literally took my breath away. That adventurous dawn was my ‘Eureka moment,’ my introduction to the WOW experience, when I understood that, if you choose, life can just happen in a humdrum, run of the mill manner, or you can fill it with wondrous sights and experiences that are life altering and truly do take your breath away.
I carry that experience with me always and the spirit of that magical moment infuses our company vision and is at the heart of our mission at Destination Himalaya – to create for our clientele a series of these wondrous sights and experiences.
Our Commitment to
We are committed to ensuring travel that is both ecologically responsible and culturally sensitive. Out of respect for the natural environment and the people of the regions in which we operate, we uphold the highest standards of low-impact and sustainable tourism. Our goal is to ensure a mutually beneficial encounter between our clients and the proud people of Asia, and to help preserve the pristine beauty of this special land by continually striving to exceed “industry-best standards.”
Our “Commitment to Intelligent Travel” stresses education and understanding. We do our utmost to educate our clients about the destinations they will visit prior to their departure, during their time in Asia, and after they return home. We realize that an adventure to Asia may be a once in a lifetime experience for our clients, however, we hope that their trip merely whets their appetite and enhances what for many becomes a lifelong love affair with the region. This is why many of our clients continue to join us on subsequent Asian adventures.
Travel is education and escape, an awakening of the senses. Travel is cutting loose to enter the unknown, allowing us to come home and see our world with fresh eyes. Travel is what most of us long to do. It connects us to others and brings us to a greater understanding of ourselves. Those of us who are travelers truly appreciate what we gain by visiting other lands, by stepping out of our comfortable homes and seeing life as it is in various parts of the world. This is certainly an important part of what we do as tour operators – facilitate and enable our fellow travelers to benefit from all that our world has to offer. Yet, for us, this is not enough; it is equally important that we give back to the people and lands of Asia who are directly responsible for our livelihood.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that
you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover."

The wheel of life
We had such a great time on our Agra/Jaipur trip. I have to say, we were thoroughly impressed with your whole organization. Everyone was friendly, punctual and extremely professional. We were amazed at how we were simply handed off from one person to the next -- never having to wonder or figure out where to go or what to do. I can honestly give a full endorsement! A trip with you is the way to go when visiting India!
